Are you concerned about security in our online shop ... ?
Our online shop is powered by 'Actinic' software, and there is a web page
here which discusses security options. There is a link
on the page to a 'White Paper' which goes into much greater depth should you be interested.
Many retailers choose ( or are forced through lack of choice in other software packages ) to use the SSL option ( a Secure Server - which
uses web pages which start with https: ) when processing payments. Actinic have built a 'Secure Java Applet' into their application which
they claim safely encrypts all credit card information before it leaves your computer. The Java option costs us nothing to administer,
whereas moving to SSL would add a cost to every transaction which would in turn be reflected in our prices. The only downside to using
the Secure Java Applet is that a small proportion of our customers' PCs do not have Java installed and cannot complete the ordering
process.
We are not aware of any instances where the security of personal data has been compromised, either through our own online shops or through
other users of Actinic software. If you remain at all concerned with the 'Secure Java Applet', we would of course be happy to take your
orders by phone or fax, eliminating any transmission of data across the internet.
